So, its election season. Not that I have been all that interested, but here is what I figure is going to happen. Not that it is all that hard to figure out because really on my ballot this year most are running unopposed. But here goes the contested races at least.
UC DA: This is clearly going to be the race that everyone will be watching because really, there is no other county wide race. (Except your particular County Legislator). I figure Carnright has this by a landslide. Sennett didn't have a chance from the word go. He has already lost once, he has a lot of baggage from his past outspoken views, and he has a lot of Democrats that I know who are not impressed with him or don't like him and are not planning on voting for him. Add to that Carnright's weekly appearances in the paper actually locking up bad people, and the everyday joe is going to vote for him. And really that's what it comes down to, if you are in either camp you can dole out all of the political propaganda you want. But the fact is if people open up the paper each day and see bad guys going to jail they are happy, Period.
Town of Ulster: As far as the Town Board and Supervisor go, they are all running unopposed. Now I want to preface this next comment with the following statement: I think the current Town Board (the Town Supervisor in particular) have done a good job trying to set the Town back on solid financial footing with some type of a plan for the future. That being said, I was very disappointed that the democratic party didn't put up a single candidate for Town Board. When you only have one voice in any level of government you are treading in dangerous water. Hopefully the party figures out their problems and looks towards the future.
UC Legislature: As far as the whole legislature goes, who knows, and who cares. I haven't seen any real progress from the last (at least) two groups through the legislature. It has been controlled now by both parties and both have done really nothing of any real substance. So about the best we can hope for is lots of changes. I could care less which party takes control, as long as they do something. This county is being trampled on by New York City and New York State and the only voice I have heard is from the County Exec, which in my opinion is very reserved and pre-planned. I would assume that he is already aspiring to higher office, so why fight for little ole us against people he may need to help him out if he goes for higher office. My district race has Jim Maloney vs. Mark Trott, and I did my litmus test with Trott and he failed. I can't stand when someone blows you off because they assume based on your affiliation what you already think. In years past Mike Berardi and Brian Cahill have gotten mine and my household's vote because they treated us like residents that they represent (or want to represent) not as voters from a particular party.
City of Kingston: Don't live there, don't really care. As long as the Town Government gives them a wide berth so that they don't try to shift the city's cost on to me through the guise of shared services.
However, I do need to put in a shameless plug for my sister-in law Janai McDonough for Alderman (Alderwoman?) of Ward 5. She is someone that actually gives a crap, and I think she will do a good job if elected, and even if she isn't elected which isn't something that you can say about most politicians. And yeah, yeah, yeah, I know she is represented by a party that I am not at all crazy about despite the fact that in theory I am the prime category of constituent that they supposedly represent. But hey, they endorsed her and if it gets a good person elected I will go for it and so should you if you live in Ward 5. And with a 3 way race it could go either way.
I think that is it, as far as predictions go. The best part about all of these unopposed races.........LESS LAWN SIGNS!!! That makes us all winners.
Sorry I haven't been around much, I really haven't felt much like blogging. But I think I will try some here in the near future though. I have come across some pretty cool things in recent months that I have meant to put up here. So we'll see how it goes.
Right now this has been my new life's mission. April 2012, 11 Miles, 28 Obstacles, Fire, 40 degree water, mud, snow, electric shocks and much more fun. And it raises money for the Wounded Warriors' Project.
So maybe I'll think of some other stuff to post and I will see you around.

Sorry, but my legal department says I can't let you post go through with the criminal accusation against Carnright that you started out with. I will happily post the rest if you want to resubmit it.
As for the rest, you can look at it however you want. The fact is, the majority of voters in this county don't look any further than the headline. So your conspiracy theories about how Carnright is or isn't screwing up don't resonate outside of the political party circles and hardcore supporters or detractors. When people go to the voting booth here is exactly what the majority of people are going to think in their head:
"Carnright??? Oh yeah he is the incumbent, he got those scumbag gang bangers locked up for murder, and he indicted that cop for bad stuff. And Sennett, yeah he must be the guy running against Carnright" Click.
This is why incumbents usually get re-elected regardless of how competent they are unless they do something really stupid like pull a Weiner. I realize you are probably either A: A big supporter of Sennett, or B: Someone who really doesn't like Carnright so you are going to disagree with me. But such is life.
As far as the Federal Indictments or indictments from the State Attorney General? I have been hearing those rumors for over a year, along with others that some people very high up in the food chain that are supposedly going to fall when the state and feds are finished investigating. It hasn't happened yet, and everyday it doesn't it makes stronger the argument that they are nothing more than rumors.
Enjoy your weekend.
I don't really care about what you post or not. It was just for you not your readers.(do you have any?) I appreciate the rumor that some accusations were made and you thought they rose to the level of criminal. I wouldn't have gone so far, but it's not posted so I guess it will just hang out there like all good rumors do. The facts haven't warranted an indictment yet so I think your assessment of criminal might be wrong. If you're right though, I bet a lot of people will be happy, and a lot will be out of business. We'll see.
Obviously when you don't post for months, readership goes down. I only had 30 unique hits yesterday and 20 today. That's a far cry of my record last year of 534 in one day. (Next ask me if I care?)
Sorry about the post, but local politicians in this town have proved in the past that they like to sue for libel. So I don't push the envelope when it comes to that.
Hey no problem there. I was more interested in what you thought. I really only took interest in the "interesting" behavior of the former occupant and took a stand to stop Bradley from continuing it. I met with Carnright and thought he was ok. Now I obviously would like a more hands on approach to get the Matthews types hands out of the public till. I don't think Carnright is going to do more than just push paper. It's too bad the last guy got to be judge though. And Bradley became an assistant to the state ag. Go figure. Thanks for your opinion. I like the perspective you give these issues.
